Maize will play an important role in the coming future for meeting rising demand for food, feed, nutrition and environment security. However, this nutritious crop needs further promotion for human consumption to fulfil under-nutrition in Asia-Pacific.
Soil constitutes the foundation of agriculture and thus provides us with food, fiber, feed and fuel. oil provides ecosystem services critical for life: soil acts as a water filter and a growing medium; provides habitat for billions of organisms, contributing to biodiversity. Besides, almost all of the antibiotics we take to help us fight infections are obtained from soil microorganisms!
We are delighted to welcome our very first YPARD Country representative for Tanzania: Juma Bruno Ngomuo. Juma has a degree in Rural Development from Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA). Over the past few months, Juma has provided social media consultancy services for a range of events aimed at driving policy change in favour of agriculture.
We are delighted to welcome our very first YPARD Country representative for Turkey: Eren Taskin. Eren studied Agricultural engineering and Horticulture in Ege University of Izmir, Turkey. After his studies, he took a master on Organic Agriculture in CIHEAM Institute of Bari, Italy where he had the opportunity to learn a lot from experiences of many specialists who work on issues related to organic agriculture.

We are delighted to welcome our new YPARD Country representative for Brazil: Gustavo Togeiro de Alckmin. Gustavo studied Agriculture at the College of Agriculture “Luiz de Queiroz” of the University of São Paulo and holds a Msc. on Agricultural Systems for Local Development from the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid and the University of Montpellier SupAgro.

Nepalese agriculture is undergoing rapid changes. While a large number of experienced human resources are retiring, young professionals are taking their places, generating wider gaps in updating agricultural research and knowledge. Besides, the lack of adequate agricultural workers has resulted in a growing tendency to farms fallow.

I have always been passionate about agriculture and all the activities linked to this industry, which I believe came from growing up in the countryside, particularly during a time when Caroni (1975) Limited –a famous company in Trinidad and Tobago- was still involved in sugar cane manufacturing.
