Training course on Food Systems: From Agronomy to Human Health. Short Deadline!

Neglected and underutilized plant species (NUS) include hundreds of locally domesticated and wild species which are rich in nutrients and adapted to low-input agriculture. Such local and traditional foods contribute to dietary diversity and play a key role in supporting rural livelihoods.    The objective of this course is to develop capacity to assess and measure agricultural biodiversity in the context of food and nutrition security in West African food systems. The organizers hereby invite prospective applicants from Benin, Ghana, Mali, Nigeria and Senegal to submit an essay, and apply for participation in the course. Date: 3-7 September 2012 Deadline for applications: 6 June 2012 Venue: Cotonou, Benin Organizers: Institut de Recherché et de Développment sur la Biodiversité des Plantes Cultivées, Aromatiques et Médicinales (IRDCAM), Bioversity International, African Network for Agriculture, Agroforestry and Natural Resources Education (ANAFE) and Regional Universities Forum for Capacity Building in Agriculture (RUFORUM).
