Dryland agrifood, youth research and the CGIAR Research Program on Grain Legumes and Dryland Cereals
From February 14 th to 16 th, over 130 participants from 25 countries gathered in Addis Ababa to confirm partners and priorities at the launch meeting of the CGIAR Research Program on Grain Legumes and Dryland Cereals (GLDC). The YPARD director, Courtney Paisley, was in attendance and she reports on the meeting proceedings.

As a youth delegate, YPARD Moldova country representative got an opportunity to represent her chapter and YPARD Europe at the youth uniting sectors to halt deforestation capacity development workshop and conference organized by IFSA, GLF and FAO.
The chapter maps various organizations, movements and associations helping young people contribute to agricultural progress in the country.

Every January, New Year resolutions storm our brain as we try to prioritize efforts, plans, and ambitions. The YPARD Netherlands working team used the opportunity to ask themselves some pertinent questions like; What are the young professionals in agriculture up to? What are their needs?
YPARD MENTORING PROGRAMS UPDATE
Pilirani Khoza, a Young Africa Works Summit mentee, tells us more about the progress of her initiatives for young people in agriculture as well as the proceedings from her participation at the recent Living Territories 2018 conference.
In January, YPARD Frace and YPARD Serbia conceived and put in place an on-site mentoring program along with the Living Territories conference. The two country representatives share with us what they learned from this experience.
In February 2017, forty-seven African youth attended the MasterCard Foundation’s Young Africa Works Summit (YAW2017) in Kigali, Rwanda. Fourteen of those youth delegates were selected to receive 12 months of mentoring from senior delegates attending the Summit. Jabulani Nyegere, one of the mentees, takes us through the relationship with his mentor to date.

YP OF THE MONTH
Reminiscing, seven years ago, I got to know about YPARD through Farming Matters magazine. I was reading an article – “ Youth, Farming and Research ” – written by YPARD Director, Courtney Paisley which motivated me to see the reason why young professionals need to be engaged in shaping the future of agriculture.
